- 24th January - Henry Wilks encounters an old flame from 30 years ago.
- 21st February - Beckindale's new vicar William Hockley arrives in the village. (First appearance of the character)
- 22nd February - New The Woolpack barmaid Dolly Skilbeck arrives in the village. (First appearance of the character)
- 1st March - Mandy Dingle is born to Caleb Dingle and Vera-Lynn Dingle.
- 21st March - Olaf and Asta Gunnarson get trapped in a pothole. Olaf is rescued but there is no sign of Asta.
- 22nd March - Asta is found by Matt Skilbeck.
- 10th May - Alice Wilson is born to John Wilson.
- 21st June - Jim Gimbel commits suicide off-screen by shooting himself. The event makes his daughter Kathy decide to move back home. (Final appearance of Kathy Davis)
- 28th June - Sam Pearson collapses.
- 30th June - Annie Sugden falls down the stairs and is left with a broken arm.
- 12th July - Syd Harker is released from prison.
- 19th July - The Sugden's sheep are stolen.
- 20th July - Kerry Wyatt is born.
- 21st July - Syd reveals to William Hockley that he stole the Sugden's sheep.
- 15th August - A pregnant Sarah Oswell gives birth to her and her husband Ray's child whilst temporarily staying at Emmerdale Farm.
- 16th August - William leaves the village. (Final appearance of the character) Sam Dingle is born to Zak and Nellie Dingle.
- 20th September - Dolly falls off her scooter and injures her leg.
- 4th October - A barn fire occurs at Parker's Field. One firefighter is severely burnt when a burning hay bale falls on him.
- 11th October - Another fire breaks out in the village. The blame finger is pointed towards tourists staying in a barn that caught ablaze.
- 20th October - Frank Armitage's planned caravan site is burnt down.
- 25th October - First appearance of Donald Hinton.
- 3rd November - Angela Read goes missing following an argument with Sam Pearson.
- 10th November - Angela is found.
- 15th November - The Woolpack is broken into and the Butterworth Ball is stolen.
- 8th December - Dolly reveals to Annie that Richard Roper is her ex-fiancee and that she put her son up for adoption many years ago.
