Emmerdale Wiki

Arthur Hebron Braithwaite was born in 1897 in Beckindale. He had an uncle Jeremiah Braithwaite. In 1911 he took a girl up to Kipps Inlet, a local field on his first date. He served at Flanders during WW1 with Sam Pearson. He married in about 1920 and had two sons whom were both killed in WW2. Arthur remarried in 1948 and became stepfather to his wife's grown up daughter Eileen.

Arthur Braithwaite made a visit to Emmerdale Farm in February 1979 for his birthday. His farm, Bull Pot Farm was dilapidated and in need of repair. New NY Estates manager Maurice Westrop wanted him to sell the farm so that he could keep his reputation up, or at least renovate the farm. Arthur was now about 80 years old and unable to run the farm like he used to. Eileen Bowker came to visit him but Arthur was not pleased to see her, believing that she wanted his money. She even assumed that Maurice Westrop would get thugs to evict Arthur, and Maurice was not pleased. Eventually, after an accident where Sam Pearson accidentally shut Arthur's fingers in a car door, Arthur decided to give up Bull Pot Farm and retire. He then decided to move into the main village, even considering moving into the old forge.

Arthur was mentioned in July 1980 when he gave Amos his old wardrobe. In January 1982, Tom Merrick said he collected some scrap from Arthur Braithwaite.
