Clare Sutcliffe was the girlfriend of Nick Bates in June and July 1988. Clare and Nick met when Nick successfully foiled a raid at the Post Office, saving Mrs Robson. However, their relationship didn't last long and Clare left Beckindale without a trace. However, she returned in February 1989 and the pair reconciled. Nick proposed to Clare in April 1989, but she rejected, causing Nick to end their relationship and Clare left the village for good.
