Duncan Preston (born 11th August 1946 in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire) is an English actor who portrayed Doug Potts in Emmerdale from April 2007 to February 2011 and again from September 2014 to February 2020.
Pior to appearing in Emmerdale, Preston was best known for his appearances in television productions written by Victoria Wood, including his roles as Clifford in the soap opera parody sketches Acorn Antiques and Stan in the sitcom dinnerladies. He reprised his role of Clifford in Acorn Antiques: The Musical! in 2005.
In July 2010, Preston revealed he was to take a break from Emmerdale in early 2011 for 5 months to star in the theatre production of To Kill A Mockingbird. He departed from the serial in February 2011, before returning in 2014.
Preston was married to Susan Penhaligon from 1986 to 1992, but the couple reconciled in 1997 and they currently remain in a relationship
Preston also narrated all episodes Emmerdale 1918, in which some of the Emmerdale cast are told the stories of soldiers from Esholt (the old Emmerdale set) who went to war, the soldiers having similar jobs/experiences to their character.
