Plot[]

Will, Linda and Charlie have been at the hospital all night. Emma requests to see Linda, but Charlie heads in instead, feeling that she had let Emma down. Tony and Becky arrive back from Paris to be told by Jan and Ned that Emma has had a haemorrhage and collapsed, with the abandoned baby being hers. Becky is very sympathetic and tells Emma nothing she did would ever stop them loving her. Tony agrees but he demands to know who the father was. Emma refuses to tell him and becomes so upset the nurse suggests Tony leave. The nurse takes Tony and Becky to her office and tells them Emma is disturbed and anxious and the police would wish to speak to her about why she had abandoned the baby. The Cairns go to see the baby but later in the chalet, Tony tells Becky not to get too attached to her because she would have to be adopted. Becky disagrees that this would necessarily be for the best, but Tony is adamant he wouldn't have his daughter's future jeopardised. Chris goes to see Kim's solicitor and accuses her of being corrupt because she can find no documents relating to the sale of the livery business amongst Kim's papers. Chris is left seething when is told that far as the law is concerned no such transaction ever took place. She suggests he should sue his legal advisors but he is forced to admit he had only sought legal advice initially because Kim had wanted a quick sale. Later at Home Farm, he gets drunk and curses Kim while Zoe appears unsympathetic, telling him it was about time he cleared up his own mess. Paddy inadvertently let slip to Betty that the abandoned baby belonged to “the Cairns girl”. In the Woolpack that evening, Betty is quick to spread the gossip and pass comment on the Cairns, more specifically Tony and Becky. As she is leaving, she bumps into Charlie talking to Biff and Linda, confused as to why she is out of hospital so early after having a baby. Charlie angrily tells her that it was Emma who had given birth, leaving Betty horrified. Tom has no luck at the job centre again and when he and Kelly return to the post office, Vic makes it clear to Viv that he is still very unhappy about their relationship. Later, as Vic and Viv share a drink in the Woolpack, Kelly and Tom kiss on the sofa and discover a mystery letter beneath the cushions. Viv admits to Vic that her relationship with Terry is over. Vic tells her he already knows because Kathy had told him. Viv storms back home. When she arrives, she and Vic find a note from Kelly telling them that she and Tom had left and won’t be coming back. Viv realises that it must have been Vic who had written the poison pen letter to Tom's new school and angrily storms out accusing Vic of being underhand.
