Jed was a gypsy who arrived in Beckindale in January 1978. Jed caused controversy with the villagers right from the start, getting in trouble for having a dead fox in the back of his truck. He wanted to bury it but the villagers said no, so Joe Sugden took him out of the village to bury it. He later goes stealing around the village, but when he breaks into Emmerdale Farm, Matt Skilbeck catches him. After not being welcomed in the village and getting caught whilst getting on the wrong side of the law, Jed leaves with the other gypsies to the joy of the villagers.
