Jonah Dingle was the brother of Nebuchadnezzar, Isaac, Jehosophat and Jezebel Dingle, as well as the father of Jedediah and Bert Dingle.
Jonah was raised in Ballybeg until the death of his brother Adam in 1904, where his parents abandoned him and he fled to Australia. He found a lump of gold and became incredibly wealthy, and arrived in Beckindale in 1919 to help with Mick Dingle's garage. He fell for Dot Colton and restored The Woolpack with her, eventually beginning a relationship with her. They married in 1920 and their son Jed was born a year later.
