Reggie Wilkie was a flame of Betty Eagleton, the pair re-encountering each other when Reggie is hired as a magician at the Christmas show in December 1999. Reggie tried to win Betty back by destroying her relationship with Seth Armstrong, to Betty's dismay. It transpired that Reggie once dated Betty in the early 1950s when she worked as a tiller girl in London, and he got her pregnant in 1953 but when Betty went to tell him, she found him in bed with another woman, and that Betty had a backstreet abortion, and was unable to have any more children, yet she never told anyone about this. Reggie tried to blackmail Betty into telling the village about her other more smutty occupation almost 50 years earlier, but she told Seth herself. Reggie only succeeded in infuriating Seth so Seth forced him to leave the village in February 2000, and Reggie left them alone forever.
